An unhelthy work place is anything that makes you feel uncomfortabke, unappreciated or undevalued. This can range from all out bullying, screaming and talked to, to more subtle forms of poor communication, setting up for failure, mismanagement anf an air of hostility. It can be very difficult to deal with an unheathy workplace but hopefully I can help you through it.
When a flower doesn’t bloom you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.
Once we leave school we think that bullying ends. Right? Unfortunately, that’s not the case, we live in a world where bulying is always going to be a part of our lives. We can get stuck in an unhealthy workplace where your coworkers or even your boss can treat you like complete shit. When I was 16 I began to work in a restaurant, my first evening working there I started at 6pm and didn’t finish until at least 2am. Right from the beginning I knew this was not going to be a great place I stayed there for over two years and it never got any better.
I was screamed at, my hours were cut whenever they decided to cut them, I was given no chance of improving my skills, they paid me next to nothing. Throughout my time there I seen so many staff come and go and I knew that I would be one of those people once I found a new job to move to.
Sadlly, that wasn’t the case. During a shift of mine I ended up quitting because I had three people in my face screaming at me and I couldn’t deal with the treatment anymore. It takes a lot to walk out of your job without something else for you to move into, but your physica and mental heath is so much more important than some shitty job that doesn’t recognise your worth or talent and truly does not deserve you.
Signs of an unhealthy workplace
- There is no discipline towards the bullying

- Threats of being fired
- Your boss doesn’t support you
- Managers are dictators not leaders
- Argumentative manager
- Constantly being criticised
How to deal with an unhealthy workplace
- Raly like minded people who you trust and watch your back
- Document absolutely everything that happens
- Avoid toxic workers by creating boundaries
- Communicate assertivelywhen dealing with bullies or toxic people
- Steer clear of office gossip and do your work
- Report to a higher deppartment
- Having a manager who is closed minded
No job is worth you getting ill either mentally or physically. Do not stay in a job that you absolutely hate and feel ill every day you are heading into work. It is so important that you take care of yourself and focus on you. Don’t let some shitty job ruin you or your life, report it or get out of there! You may be unemployed for a little while but it’s a whole lot better than constantly feeling ill every single day of your life! It’ time to think of you.
