It’s almost been a year since I made the biggest decision of my life. This decision was moving to New Zealand to be with my boyfriend. As of April 1st that happened. I am now living in New Zeland. I can’t believe that it has been four days already! My life has changed so much since the move four days ago and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Since arriving here I have explored my new home town of Keri Keri and I can’t wait to explore the rest of this beautiful country so I decided to create a New Zealand North Island bucket list so I don’t forget anything that has caught my interest during the last few months of research.
Waitangi Treaty House
If you have been following my blog for a while you will know that I am a huge history freak so this is definitely for me. Waitangi treaty house is New Zealand’s most significant historic site. This site is where the Maori and the British signed the Waitangi Treaty to allow British Sovernity over New Zeland.
Again another place to feed my love for history. Auckland Museum is regarded as one of the finest museums in the Southern Hemisphere and its renowned for its unique collection of Maori and Pacific treasures! This is definitely a site I am excited to visit because I want to learn as much as I can about the Maori culture.
I absolutely love heights! It fills me with such adrenaline so this is a definite must do. Who wouldn’t love a view of Auckland City from 220 metres into the sky and a panoramic 360-degree view? I haven’t had an adrenaline rush in a while so hopefully, I can get this one done soon.
While in Ireland I visited Dublin zoo many times throughout the 18 years of being there. I love seeing the animals in their natural habitats and learning all about them. In Auckland Zoo there are going to be animals that I have never seen before like the serval, the native birds of New Zealand and so much more.
Giapo Ice Cream Shop
While searching for things to add to my New Zealand North Island bucket list I came across this place and I didn’t understand why it was an attraction and very popular. It just seemed to be an ice cream shop but boy was I wrong! It is so much more than that. After some research I understood. Giapo mashes up idea’s from technology, art and science to change the function of ice cream.
During Ryan and I’s Ireland road trip we hiked Croagh Patrick. Although I struggled a lot I would love to do some more hiking after I start getting fit and living a much healthier lifestyle than I had while living in Ireland. This is just normal hiking though this is an extinct volcano with a 50ft deep crater at the top with another 360-degree view of the gorgeous city of Auckland.
While enjoying the natural beauty of the forest you can learn all about the Maori culture and how they lived.
Te Puia Thermal Park
Te Puia is known to be the centre for New Zealand’s Maori culture and geothermal wonders. It is also located within the Whakarewarewa forest. Te Puis has bubbling mud, boiling pools of water and the endangered Kiwi bird just to name a few things.
The Huka Falls are the largest falls on the Waikato River, near Taupo. It is the most visited natural attraction in New Zealand so I obviously need to visit and see what it is all about.
Tongariro National Park
A unique dual world heritage site 300,000 years in the making. From here you can see three mountains, Mount Tongariro, Mount Ngaruhoe and Mount Ruapehu.
Another natural beauty of New Zealand where you can trace the shoreline, pass giant podocarp trees and remote eaches, It sounds like paradise doesn’t it?
Old St. Pauls
Another historic site to feed the history buff side of me. I am really excited to visit this gorgeous wooden cathedral in the heart of the bustling capital of Wellington.
Waitomo is a town built on many caves that I would love to explore just like Doolin cave Ryan and I explored during our Ireland road trip. It’ll be a unique experience seeing the glow worms who live in the caves.
Wai O Tapu
Wai O Tapu shows off New Zealand’s geothermal topography through geysers, sulfur lakes and mud pools. Another gorgeous natural site that I need to visit.
A place where you can mountain bike, Kayak and so much more on and around this lake. I’m not sure how I want to explore yet but it will be explored I can tell you that!
Hot Water Beach
You can’t travel to New Zealand and not go to the beach! This is one of the many beaches I would like to visit.
Have you visited New Zealand? What did you experience and what have I missed from this list? Let me know in the comments below!
