Book: The Demons Beneath
Author: W.D Jackson Smart
Publication date: April 2019
Genre: Paranormal, Mystery
Rating: 5 STARS
A detective new to London. A possible serial killer. And a demon? When a bloody corpse is discovered in a North London park, Detective Inspector Daniel Graves is the man tasked with finding the killer. With no clues and no suspects it seems like a dead end. Then another body turns up and this time it looks like it could be his fault. Has his investigation caused the murderer to strike again? Is he dealing with a serial killer? As the case gets ever more complicated, a report comes in of another suspicious death but this is nothing like any other Graves has dealt with. All involved are convinced that something supernatural is to blame. A demon. Daniel is no believer but could he be wrong? With two cases on his shoulders and the truth behind each beyond his grasp, Graves must race against time before both killers, human or otherwise, strike again.
Right from the beginning I was really intrigued because I have never read a book involving a police investigation and paranormal happenings.
In the Demon’s Beneath we follow multiple points of view from the police officers, the victims of the two crimes and some other people within this story. We are following two police investigations of two very very different cases and that put a lot of pressure on the detective running both investigations, D.I. Graves.
This story explores faith in such a huge way because there are hints at possession and demons being involved and not many people believe in demons and religion, etc.
Within this story there were no romance at all which I really enjoyed because I think if romance would have been involved it could have ruined this book because it is a paranormal mystery story.
The writing inside the demons beneath was absolutely amazing, it built up so much tension which kept me on the edge of my seat.
Due to this story being the first book of this series I didn’t expect how well the relationships were formed within this story. We also get glimpses of D.I. Graves past and learn a lot about what has made this who he is.
Normally I can guess the ending of thrillers but this ending blew me away. I really didn’t see any of it coming!
D.I. Graces is a very self conscious man who compares himself to Charlie his new partner, no he’s not perfect, yes he has flaws but he is such a great character. He cries, show emotions, has professionalism and is a realistic and reality character right from the beginning which I really liked.
I really enjoyed the witty banter between graves and Charlie. They have a really nice relationship and work very well together.
Final thoughts and emotions
I loved this book. I can’t wait to get into the next book in this series and add this book to my 2019 favourites.
