Wanted Book Review.

Wanted was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review by the author through BookTasters. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Book: Wanted ( The August Havens Series Book 1)
Author: Shelby Haisley

Publication Date: 24th January 2014

Genre: Young adult, mystery

Rating: 3 STARS

I was really excited to dive into this book because the author Shelby wrote Wanted as a teenager and I really wanted to see how she did at such a young age. Wanted was a really quick and fast paced read. Although there were some problems with this story I did really enjoy it.

Synopsis

August Havens was a normal girl until the night of the accident. During that fateful evening, both her beloved parents and her memory of the event vanished in an instant. She thought it was a blessing in disguise not to remember until the CIA came after her wanting to know her parents’ secrets. Now with the help of a gruff rogue agent and a young and clever inventor with secrets of their own, she must unlock her memories of the most horrible night of her life and manage to stay one step ahead of her enemies. It won’t be easy, but sometimes the skeletons in the closet must be revealed.

My Review

I was really excited to dive into this book because the author Shelby wrote Wanted as a teenager and I really wanted to see how she did at such a young age. Wanted was a really quick and fast paced read. Although there were some problems with this story I did really enjoy it.

Problems I had with this story: There were two cases of insta love which was quite cringey and made me roll my eyes at how quick those relationships formed. But Insta love is a very typical trope in young adult so I can’t really fault it for that. One of these relationships that formed was between a 15 year old and a 19 year old which didn’t sit very well with me because one of the people in the relationship was still a child.

Another problem I had with this story was that at the start of this story August had no idea what her parents were involved in, she was very innocent and although she knew how to shoot a gun she wasn’t trained in combat but suddenly when she gets in some pretty tough situations she became this badass fighter who could beat up fully grown men. This didn’t really make a lot of sense to me and didn’t show much character growth, it just became very convenient.

What I enjoyed with this story: I really enjoyed the characters and I liked how fast paced and quick Wanted was. This was a really fun, action packed, thrashy (in a good way) young adult story that you should check out if you ever get into a reading slump.

Shelby Haisley is an independent mystery author from small town Indiana. She has enjoyed psychological thrillers and espionage stories, such as Mission: Impossible and The Bourne Identity, and wanted to write one of her own. Shelby combined her passionate love of writing and vivid imagination to create an original story of danger, deceit, and adventure. She decided it was time for a female heroine to step into the action scene, thus August Havens was born and her story began. Shelby has self-published three books in her original series, The August Havens ChroniclesWanted (2014), Twisted (2015), and Crossed (2017). She is currently writing the fourth and final novel, Shattered, which is due to release in 2020.
